Kenny Bowers was born December 8th, 1942 at home in Fairfield Illinois to Fred and Joan Bowers. Kenny is the second oldest out of one brother (who is deceased) and two sisters. Kenny attended 1st – 8th grade in Fairfield. Kenny and his family moved 14 miles north of Fairfield to a town called Cisne where Kenny attended high school. After graduation Kenny joined the Navy.

In 1962 Kenny moved to Tower Hill where he worked for Firestone in Decatur. Kenny moved to Pana in 1966 then married Dixie Owens from Pana. To this union they were blessed with 2 sons. One of Kenny’s sons is a minister in Metropolis Illinois whom he is very proud of. Kenny has one grandchild who lives in Jonesboro Illinois and one daughter-in-law. .  In 1973 Kenny married Donna Hickson from Springfield. To this union they were blessed with a little girl who passed away at the tender age of 14 months.

There were quite a few years that Kenny made a living playing music and singing all over Central Illinois. Kenny worked with Eddie Hayes for a couple of years as a siding applicator. He then worked for ACR Components testing air conditioning components. He retired in 2001.

Kenny loves to bow hunt and is into archery. He also has carved bows out of maple.  Kenny likes to play bingo, golf, playing his guitar and singing. Kenny loves to make CD’s.  Kenny has made appearances at some of the country shows in the area. He has traveled to Nashville Tennessee quite a few times. He has toured Iowa, Missouri, Michigan, and Illinois as a Gospel Singer. Kenny has made 2 Gospel Albums that he has since put on CD’s. Kenny is a big Cardinals Fan and hardly misses a game on tv.

He has been a member of the Eagles and is currently a member of Pana Area Senior Center where you can find Kenny hanging out.

On October 7, 1997 Kenny was inducted into the Country Hall of Fame in Ashland Illinois.

Kenny’s mother is still living and lives in Pana.

For those that have not heard Kenny sing, he is very good. Kenny has CD’s that he will sell if anyone is interested. Just give him a call or catch up with him at the Senior Center.
